“I give myself away…”- William McDowell

MIND BATTLES

I woke up peeved after nursing a headache from thoughts and a cocktail I should’ve skipped. I tried to take the edge off overwhelming frustration, resentment and disappointments that lingered. I searched for the season’s lesson while fighting off energies and heaviness that tried to pull me down. Psalm 23 helped center me. The Lord’s Prayer reminded me that God’s kingdom is where His children live. I declared Isaiah 54:17. Our lives as believers are hidden in Christ. God’s will is the hope we anticipate to remain in daily.

A SAVING SONG

My mind had trouble shaking irritating memories and existing concerns. I took accountability for my choices and took my power back. After repenting in prayer, the song “I Give Myself Away” by William McDowell came to my spirit. These lyrics played within:“My life is not my own, to you I belong, I give myself, I give myself to you”. While writing this post, specific lyrics continued. “Here I am, here I stand, Lord my life is in your hands… I give myself away, I give myself away, so you can use me.

The words “living sacrifice” came to remembrance. Offenses, fears and grievances awaited forgiveness and release. I wasn’t thrilled with certain circumstances but I gave thanks for the good. I remained in faith for understanding, clarity and victory in things I didn’t yet understand.

After reading and studying a portion of Romans 12:1-3, I was reminded that “acts of worship, praise, and service to God”, through hardship or distress is a sacrifice. It’s surrendering our perspectives, emotions, timetable and personal will for God’s will— even when we don’t know what’s next. Our praises are an offering to God. The “sacrifice of praise” we’re admonished to render in faith is for God’s goodness and faithfulness — in honor of God’s sure love and character. Hallelujah! God is worthy of all glory, reverence and, adoration. Thank you Father for who you are and for all you’ve done.

BE ENCOURAGED

May our minds be renewed and transformed. May we “not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.God’s plans are to prosper us. May we be secure in faith. May we walk in God’s love, strength, grace and courage. May we continue to “see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living”. Happy New Year! In Jesus name. Amen.
